3 Ways AI Can Help Your Learning & Development Business

Practical AI use cases for L&D companies: chatbots for learning pathways, AI video generation, and multi-tool automation.

If you sell certifications, courses, self-paced or live online training — or even if you handle employee onboarding and internal L&D — these three AI use cases are going to be very practical for you.

1. AI Chatbots for Learning Pathways

Everyone has heard about chatbots, and we've been building them since 2016-17. But the original iterations were clunky decision trees with hundreds of nodes. Making any adjustment was a nightmare.

Here's what's different now. Say you have 20 courses and a new student comes to your website. They have to dig through sections to figure out which course comes after which. We're asking people to do all the work. A learning pathways chatbot changes that.

The chatbot asks them questions: What's your current role? Where do you want to go? Which courses have you already taken? Then it queries your knowledge base and suggests the right courses in the right order — personalized to that individual. We've tested it and been surprised at how well it works compared to what a human would actually recommend.

And these aren't confined to your website. They work via SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, phone — wherever your customers are reaching you.

The Teaching Assistant Angle

Imagine a student going through your online course and getting stuck on a quiz question. Instead of waiting for the teacher's office hours, they have a chatbot right there that can search the course material and explain the concept. It can even say "You saw this in Lesson 2, Module 4" with a link. That's powerful.

2. AI Video Generation

Maybe you already have your course content as PowerPoint presentations. Nothing wrong with that — but it's better if you can have something more dynamic. AI-generated avatars can present your content with natural expressions and gestures.

Tools like HeyGen let you choose from existing models or train one that looks and sounds like you. Give it your script and it generates a video presentation. You can test it on a course that's underperforming and compare the results.

3. Multi-Tool Automation

This is where it gets really fun. Let's say supervisors from a third-party company need to see course progress for their students, but you don't want to give them access to your system. Using tools like Make.com, you can automatically push completion data to a Google Sheet, Airtable, or Notion that the supervisor can access.

The sky's the limit with automation. You can move data between any systems, create mini dashboards for external stakeholders, and have automations that grab feedback, push it back into your LMS, and notify the right people.

Now with AI, these automations are faster to build and more dynamic. The AI can understand "May 6th" even if your system expects a specific date format. It just figures it out and keeps going.
